Janet Moore
Janet lives in
the small Northern California coastal village of Bodega Bay where
she paints and teaches painting. Her vibrant landscapes reflect the
brilliant colors and unique shapes of Sonoma County’s coastal plains
and rural ranchlands. The local landscape is just one of Janet’s
favored subjects. Each season she creates a collection of still life
and floral paintings. And a recent series of abstract landscapes
represents yet another indication of her versatility and mastery of
skill.
“The entire process of painting is joyful for me. At the heart of
each painting is observation, an essential skill for both scientists
and painters. (my work as a marine biologist for 17 years has
influenced this skill). Looking at the world through the eyes of a
painter is a powerful experience. I like to remind students that
painting changes the way you see the world. And for me it’s always
an uplifting perspective…at every turn there are surprising
variations of light, color, shape and form. The intellectual
challenge is translating an image, emotion or idea onto paper or
canvas. For me this whole process is exciting. Plus I love being
outside and being a painter is a great excuse to walk, look, listen
and wonder.”
